Acer AL2416W

This monitor is excellent quality, but there's no digital input. If you can do without it, the AL2416W is a fair bit cheaper than the competition.

The AL2416W's 24" panel is almost as big as a living room TV but it outstrips all but the most expensive televisions with its native resolution of 1,920x1,200. The resolution is so high, you can easily work on two documents side by side.The AL2416W is attractive, with a neat silver bezel and the controls tidily lined up under the middle of the screen. Surprisingly for such an expensive monitor, though, there's only a single analogue D-sub input. We'd expect at least a DVI input and perhaps even component or S-video inputs so the monitor can be used for entertainment as well. That said, the picture quality with the analogue connection was superb. The AL2416W adjusts the image automatically when you alter resolution. Our colour wheel test looked amazing, with colours evenly distributed and blending neatly into each other.The greyscale test was slightly less impressive, with noticeable banding to the darker parts. Still, the lighter shades had good gradation and smooth transitions. The screen was evenly lit.We ran some High Definition (HD) videos through the display. Even with the PC upscaling them to match the high native resolution of the monitor, the quality of the picture was high. Colours were vibrant and rich, and the AL2416W displayed the moving images smoothly.This monitor is excellent quality, but there's no digital input.
