Pre-Migration Considerations

Pre-Migration Considerations when using Easy PC Transfer by Migo Software.

Wipe & Reload
There are two general types of Windows migrations: “Wipe & Reload” and migrating to a
new machine. In both cases, Easy PC Transfer will apply settings to the currently logged
in user. If you have more than one user account, you should create and log into that
account before applying the system and application settings.

NOTE: Easy PC Transfer will only apply settings and data to applications that have been installed on the destination machine: the applications themselves are not migrated. If you store settings and data for an application on your old computer and want to use the settings and data on the destination machine, you must install the application (or an equivalent supported application) on the destination machine before the applying settings.

Wipe & Reload: This is a migration from the Windows desktop to a new Windows
installation on the same machine (operating system upgrade or reinstallation for
example). For this migration, you will need to save the PNP file either on a network share
or via removable media (CD, DVD). Easy PC Transfer guides you in your creation of the
aforementioned PNP file (step-by-step instructions are provided below). Once the PNP
file is created, you will then load the new Windows installation onto the machine. You
will then insert the Easy PC Transfer CD in the machine and the tool will guide you
though the process of applying your saved settings to the new Windows installation.

Migrating to a new computer
This is a migration from one Windows machine to another Windows machine. Easy PC Transfer allow you to migrate the settings and data directly between the computers if they are connected via a wired or wireless network, or by connecting the computers with the included Direct Connect cable. Both computers must be running Windows 2000 or above to use the Direct Connect feature. To use the included Direct Connect cable, both computers must have network adapters and the computers must be close enough for the cable to connect them. Refer to your computer hardware documentation to determine if your computer has a network adapter.

To connect the computers using the Direct Connect cable, insert one end of the cable into
the network adapter on the old computer (usually located on the back of a desktop
computer), then connect the other end of the cable to the network adapter on new
computer. Follow the installation and usage instructions below for 'Direct' Transfer
instructions.

If the computers are not connected through a network or do not have the network
adapters, Easy PC Transfer will store your system and application settings to a file (or
files) on the local harddrive, a network drive or to an attached drive using the 'File'
transfer option. The Easy PC Transfer Wizard will walk you through the steps to create a
file (or files) which you then make available to your new computer.

For a 'Direct' or 'File' transfer, you will need to install Easy PC Transfer on both the old computer and the new computer. The Easy PC Transfer Wizard guides you through the
process and step-by-step instructions are provided below. If moving settings and data
with the 'File' method, once you have completed creating the PNP file(s) on the old
Windows machine, you will insert the Easy PC Transfer CD in the new Windows
machine and the tool will guide you through the process of applying your saved settings
to the new Windows machine.
