Storing Your Machine's Settings and Data

How to store your machine's settings and data when using Easy PC Transfer Wizard.

Below you will find detailed information on how to use the Easy PC Transfer Wizard
Note 1: Before beginning the migration process, you should close all applications whose settings you intend to migrate (such as Outlook, Word, Internet Explorer, etc.).

Note 2: Disable firewall software (McAfee, Norton, etc.) on the source and destination computers before beginning if you will be using the Direct Connect feature. Firewall software may prevent computers from finding each other on a wired or wireless network.

Easy PC Transfer Welcome
Launch Easy PC Transfer via the Easy PC Transfer icon shortcut that was created on the
desktop or from the Start Menu/All Programs/Migo Software/Migo Easy PC Transfer-
>Migo Easy PC Transfer. Select 'Store' to store your machine's user account information,
system settings, application settings and data.

By choosing “Next”, Easy PC Transfer will go through a detection process, searching the
current machine for user information and installed applications whose settings can be
moved. This can take several minutes. Have your registration key available the first time
you run Easy PC Transfer on the machine and enter this information when asked.

System Settings
The System Settings Screen presents the set of system settings you can store. Uncheck
any system settings you do not wish to have saved. Click “Next” after making your
selections.

Application Settings Selection
Easy PC Transfer searches your machine to find applications it is capable of storing
settings for. The Applications Settings Screen presents the list of applications whose
settings you can store. Uncheck any applications you do use or whose settings you do not
want to store. Click “Next” after making your selections.

Files and Folders Settings
You will now select the files and folders you wish to migrate. You can add individual
files, folders or file types by selecting the corresponding boxes. By default, Easy PC
Transfer will move all files on your Desktop and in your My Documents directory.
You can use 'Add File', 'Add Folder' or 'Add File Type' to direct Easy PC Transfer to find
and store files located in other directories. If there are files or directories which you do not want to save, you can select 'Exclude Items...' to eliminate individual files, folders or file types from your selection. Click “Next” after making your selections.

Migration Method
You may now choose whether to migrate the settings to your new machine via the
network or direct connection or whether to create a file to store the settings to be moved
to the new machine via CD/DVD or other media. See section 5b below if using the File
method.

If your computers are connected via a network or via the provided cable, select 'Direct'.
This will perform a real time migration.

Once you have chosen Direct and selected 'Next', your source machine will enter a wait
state. You will see a dialog box of the form:

You now need to go to your new machine, install Easy PC Transfer and follow the
instructions starting at Step 2 in Section 11 below.

File Migration
If you will be storing your settings and data to a file to be moved via a digital media
source (CD, DVD, external or network drive) choose 'File'. A default destination file
name and location is provided for your convenience.

Easy PC Transfer can store the settings and data from your computer in multiple files. By
default it will create files at a 2Gb limit. However, if you are going to be moving your
data by burning it to CD, you will want smaller file sizes. The 'Advanced' option allows
you to control the size of the Easy PC Transfer output files. For example, if you will be
burning CDs with your data, you should choose to have your data saved in 650Mb
segments.

If you choose to store your data in multiple files, Easy PC Transfer will generate a core
.PNP file and auxiliary 'spanned' files with an extension .z??, where ?? is a number
(EasyPCTransfer.z01, EasyPCTransfer.z02, etc.). When moving to the new machine, you
must have all files generated by Easy PC Transfer available to you on your new
computer.

'Advanced' also offers you an option to password protect the data files that Easy PC
Transfer generates. You will be prompted for the password on the destination machine at
the time you apply settings.

Storing Settings
The Progress Screen will provide an active view of which settings and files are being
stored. If you are doing a direct migration, Total Progress may appear complete and there
will be a notice: 'Waiting for Destination to complete'.

When you see 'The Migration has completed' you can choose 'Finish'. If you are doing a
'Direct' migration, you are done. If you are doing a 'File' migration, proceed to Section 11 to apply the stored settings to the new machine.
